Vending Machines for Long-Term Care and Retirement Homes in Canada

Snacks, drinks and coffee for staff on every shift and families who visit, at no cost.

A long-term care or retirement home can get a fully stocked vending machine for staff and visitors at no cost. We supply, install, stock, clean and repair the machine, there is no contract, and installation usually takes 3 to 5 business days after approval. Your team gets food and coffee on every shift, and visiting families get a drink or snack without leaving the building.

Who actually uses vending in a care home

Residents’ meals are planned by your kitchen and dietary team, and that does not change. A vending machine serves the other people in the building:

  • Personal support workers, nurses and housekeeping staff on day, evening and night shifts, when the kitchen is closed or a break is too short to leave the property.
  • Visiting families who stay for hours, bring children, or come straight from work.
  • Contractors and agency staff who do not know the neighbourhood and have nowhere nearby to buy food.
  • Residents in retirement living who are independent and like to pick up a drink or snack on their own, where your home allows it.

Why it matters for staff on long shifts

Care work is physical, and breaks are short. When the nearest coffee shop is a drive away, staff either skip food or leave the building. A machine in the staff room or break area means a hot coffee at 3 a.m. and a real meal option during a 12-hour shift. A bean-to-cup coffee machine is often the most appreciated piece of equipment in a care home, and a fresh and frozen meal machine covers the night shift when there is no cafeteria.

Some operators also use our subsidized or free-vend option to treat staff, for example free coffee during a busy season or on a recognition day. The employer covers the cost of the items, and the machine handles the rest.

Product choices that suit a health-care setting

You decide what goes in the machine. Many care homes ask for a healthier mix alongside the usual favourites: water, milk, juice, nuts, granola bars, crackers and lower-sugar drinks. We can build the planogram around your home’s food policy and adjust it after the first few weeks based on what actually sells. Our guide to healthy vending machines in Canada shows what a balanced machine usually contains.

If your home has residents with dementia or wandering risks, we will work with you on placement, for example keeping the machine in a staff-only area or a supervised lobby rather than a resident corridor.

Quiet, clean and low-effort for your team

Care homes cannot have a vending company in the way. Our service is designed around that:

  • No staff time: your team never handles cash, restocking or repairs.
  • Payment options for everyone: tap-to-pay, credit, debit, cash and coins, so visiting grandparents and younger staff can both pay the way they prefer.
  • Restocking based on data: machines report their stock remotely, so our team visits when the machine needs product rather than on a fixed route, and can plan visits around your quiet hours.
  • New or fully refurbished machines, cleaned and maintained as part of the service.

Groups with several homes

If you operate several retirement residences or long-term care homes, we can set up one multi-site program with one contact, one product standard and one service schedule. We serve more than 2,100 cities and towns across Canada; you can check yours on our locations page. For hospitals and other high-traffic health sites, see vending for schools, hospitals and high-traffic locations.

Frequently asked questions

Does a small retirement home qualify for a free machine?

Offices of about 40 or more people usually qualify, and in a care home we count staff across all shifts plus regular visitors. Smaller homes can still ask; we will tell you honestly which setup makes sense.

Can the machine be limited to staff?

Yes. Many homes place the machine in a staff room behind a keypad door, and add a drinks machine in the lobby for families if they want one.

Who handles a jam or a refund?

We do. Contact us and we take care of the repair and the refund, so your staff do not have to.

How long does installation take?

Usually 3 to 5 business days after approval, scheduled around your home’s visiting hours and delivery rules.
